St. Joseph's Department Manager Receives Ph.D.

St. Joseph's Director of Health Information Management/Performance Improvement can now add the credentials of Ph.D. following her title. Rita Burdick, Ph.D., RHIA, CCS, a nearly 20 year employee of St. Joseph's, last month received her doctorate degree in Health Administration from Warren National University in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

In addition to her doctorate degree, Dr. Burdick has achieved her MHA degree in Health Care Administration from King's College in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and her BA in Forensics from Excelsior College in Albany, New York. Dr. Burdick started at St. Joseph's in 1989 as a Coder before promotion to the position of Senior Outpatient Coder. In July of 2001 she became the Hospital's Health Information Management Director and in April of this year the Hospital's Performance Improvement area was added to the Health Information Management Department.

Dr. Burdick lives in Bath, New York. Her family includes one daughter and three grandchildren.
