St. Joseph's Hospital Announces 2008 OPPY Award Winner

St. Joseph's Hospital 2008 OPPY Award winner is Bernadette Josbeno Oakes, the Hospital's Performance Improvement Coordinator. Bernadette (Bunny) has a long and dedicated history with St. Joseph's Hospital. She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1971 and was hired as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. She transferred to the Emergency Department where she remained for nearly 30 years before accepting the role of Performance Improvement Coordinator.

Ms. Josbeno Oakes has served on the board of Southern Tier Regional Emergency Medical Services (S.T.R.E.M.S.), volunteered countless hours to the Strong Kids-Safe Kids Program and organized the St. Joseph's Hospital float for the Elmira Holiday Parade. Bunny has spearheaded the development of a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team and has spent countless hours performing debriefings with many of our police, fire and ambulance services. She has participated in education programs in the local schools and is an active member of her church.

Bernadette Josbeno Oakes lives in Elmira and is the proud mother of four children and four grandchildren.

The St. Joseph's OPPY Award is bestowed upon a member of our Hospital family in recognition of friendly service, courtesy and creation of good will among patients, employees, hospital visitors and the public at large.
