St. Joseph's Night at Dunn Field Features Commemorative Giveaway Item

The first 500 fans attending St. Joseph's "Centennial" Night at Dunn Field on Friday, June 13 will receive a free stadium cup prior to the start of the Elmira Pioneers 7:00 p.m. baseball game against Geneva. The distribution of the free 16 ounce cups, featuring the Hospital's 100th Anniversary logo, is part of the yearlong celebration of activities commemorating St. Joseph's Centennial.

In addition to the commemorative giveaway item, St. Joseph's "Centennial" Night will feature St. Joseph's President/CEO Sister Marie Castagnaro throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the game. Jill Ciacchio, a Physical Therapist from St. Joseph's Physical Rehabilitation Department, will sing the National Anthem that night. Also, throughout the game several lucky fans will have the opportunity to win a free commemorative St. Joseph's Centennial tee shirt.

St. Joseph's "Centennial" Night also celebrates another major milestone in St. Joseph's historical connection to Elmira baseball. St. Joseph's first fundraiser occurred in 1909 when the proceeds from the baseball game between Elmira and Wilkes Barre were donated to the Hospital. In order to let their employees attend the game 40 businesses were closed that day. Game receipts, program sales, score cards, flowers, flags and the concessions netted $1,250. The Hospital used those funds to purchase surgical instruments, make some improvements and furnish a number of items that increased the Hospital's efficiency.
