St. Joseph's connects with social network users

St. Joseph's recently joined the social media network by participating on Facebook®, Twitter, and YouTube. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project (Pew Research Center 2009) more and more adult Internet users now have profiles on an online social network site. In the past four years the percentage of adult Internet users with a social network online profile has grown from 8% in 2005 to 35% in 2009.

By expanding its online presence St. Joseph's considers the social media as another communication strategy to highlight its programs, services, physicians and employees. Sister Marie Castagnaro, SSJ, St. Joseph's President/CEO said many hospitals across the country are becoming more and more involved in social media marketing. "I believe we are one of the first hospitals in this area who are actively involved with all three media of Facebook®, Twitter, and YouTube," said Sister Castagnaro. "We will continue to use the mass media in accomplishing our marketing strategies, but we view the social media as a tremendous opportunity to communicate and build lasting relationships directly with current and potentially new customers."
