St. Joseph's to implement Electronic Medical Record System

With the addition of Ken Kicak as its recently named Director of Information Services, along with an investment of approximately $2.5 million dollars, St. Joseph's plans to implement an organizational-wide Electronic Medical Records System (EMR). Available federal stimulus monies from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) will enable St. Joseph's to put into place a comprehensive electronic medical record system, for the purposes of improving patient safety and care. At the same time, Kicak will also be responsible for directing the daily activities of the Information Services Department, along with long term Information Services Strategic Planning for the hospital.

Kicak is "excited and proud to be a part of the St. Josephs team, and having the opportunity to oversee and manage the implementation of St. Joseph's EMR system". "Having experience in implementing EMR systems at other healthcare facilities, I have seen firsthand the value that this technology provides for patients as well as for physicians and other healthcare providers," said Kicak. "An electronic medical records system allows healthcare professionals to focus on providing patient care for diagnosis and treatment. The information sharing capabilities are another benefit of an EMR."

Kicak received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY and also holds an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Mohawk Valley Community College.

With over 15 years of direct experience as an IT professional in the Healthcare industry, most of it in upstate New York and Pennsylvania, Kicak comes to St. Joseph's from Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, PA where he served as Chief Information Officer.

Kicak is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Certified Information Systems Security Professional. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Healthcare Information Management Association and the International Society of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Kicak will be relocating to Horseheads with his wife and two children.
