Governor Paterson Proclaims May 12 as Health Care Auxilian Day

Governor David Paterson has proclaimed May 12, 2010 as Health Care Auxilian Day in New York State to recognize the dedicated auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their health care facilities and to their communities.

Since 1954, St. Joseph's Auxiliary has promoted and advanced St. Joseph's mission by providing service to the hospital and its patients, while also raising money to assist the hospital. At the same time, St. Joseph's Auxiliary, during this past year, participated in several community health fairs, cholesterol and glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, community blood drives, as well as with Catholic Charities of the Southern Tier's Mother's Helpers Program.

New York State has more than 75,000 health care auxilians who initiate, fund, and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services - from outpatient clinics to intensive care units. They sponsor health fairs, blood banks, and wellness lectures; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.
