With the 1980's, nursing entered a crucial period of survival.  Questions of basic preparation necessary for professional nursing created dissention within the various groups.  Opening of many new careers for women reduced the numbers seeking admission.
 
It was during this period that the decision was made to close our School of Nursing.  So it was the Class of 1988 that graduated and ended 80 years of preparing nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital.
