Adolescent Outpatient & Intensive Programs
Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program <<>>
As a way to address a community need, St. Joseph's Southern Tier Addiction Rehabilitation Services (STARS) expanded its services in 2000 to help teenagers and their parents. The Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program of STARS accepts referrals at St. Joseph's fourth floor location.
The Adolescent program, earmarked for teenagers primarily age 15 to 18, provides a 4:00-6:00 p.m. intensive group on Monday through Thursday. Younger patients may be allowed into the program if appropriate treatment can be provided.
Admission to STARS Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment program is based on an assessment of the individual's needs to determine the level of care using the Adolescent Placement Criteria of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
Length of stay in treatment and continuing care depends upon the person's needs and progress in treatment. The average length of stay is 12 weeks, plus an additional 12 weeks of “step down” continuing care.

Adolescent Outpatient Treatment Program
Adolescent Outpatient Treatment Services were added in 2002. It provides a psycho-educational group for adolescent abusing chemicals. This level of care may be indicated when there is insufficient information for a diagnosis of dependence and is based upon assessment of the adolescent with collateral information. The treatment is aimed at education on chemicals, exploring decisions which led to referral, generating options and alternatives to chemical use, and determination if higher level of care is needed. The adolescent is involved in a group along with individual appointments. Referral to a higher level of care may be made at any time during the course of the outpatient treatment.
